In 2007 fourteen St. Jamesians gathered for wine and cheese — contributed $200 or so, and went online to kiva.org to make our first microloans. In years since, more parish events have added to the pot, growing our fund to more than $3,500.
In 2008, St. James youth took over management of the fund. Making loans for as little as $25 a shot, our fund has helped more than 300 entrepreneurs in 76 countries grow their businesses: a beauty salon, farming, crafts, a bakery, clothing sales, dentistry and much more.
