Our Adult Choir leads worship at St. James — on Sunday mornings, September to early June. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 to 9:00, and on Sunday mornings from 10:00 to 10:25 in time to lead the service at 10:30.
The Choir draws heavily on the strong body of musical work of The Episcopal Church, relying on music from the Hymnal of 1982 as well as on supplementary hymnals put out by the national church.
But we sing music from other traditions as well, with selections carefully chosen to fit the liturgy for the day. In our services you will hear music from early chant to modern compositions, music from other parts of the world, from African-American spirituals and gospel songs, and from Native American hymns and chants. We make an effort to introduce new music gradually, encouraging the congregation to become familiar with it before they are asked to sing it.
