As you’ll see in other parts of this website, St. James has a strong partnership with the Episcopal parish of Bonne Nouvelle in Bigonet, Haiti — a friendship strengthened by mutual love of music.
When St. James organist, Liz Athorn, was part of one of St. James many visits to Bigonet, she brought back tapes of Haitian hymns from Bonne Nouvelle services. Liz transcribed and translated pieces for our choir and congregation to learn. We sing these hymns several times a year.
We’re also thankful for the opportunity to increase our repertoire of Haitian hymns when we have visitors from Bigonet in our midst. Our adult choir learns new songs during Bonne Nouvelle’s trips to Minnesota.
