Music has long been an important part of Christian education for the young people of St. James.
We offer training for singers as young as four or five up through high school. Our Youth Choir participates as leaders in the service once a month from September to early June. The Youth Choir, like the Adult Choir, sings in a variety of styles and languages and draws from a variety of traditions. The Youth Choir rehearses on Sundays at noon and once a month on Youth Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30.
St. James Youth Choir also participates annually, in a pageant during the Christmas or Epiphany season, and sometimes at Pentecost.
Led by St. James parishioner Louise Robinson, members of the Youth Choir are active in creating these pageants, most often with themes relevant to the world we live in today. The pageants also feature colorful and dramatic puppets made by Neal Cuthbert, a talented artist from our congregation.
Besides singing and acting, members of the Youth Choir participate in liturgical dance for the pageants and also for a candle-lighting tradition at the beginning of services during the Advent season.
